Christmas, interrupted

Here's not the place to come if you're looking for pictures of Advent candles or memories of each Christmas decoration hanging from a twinkly tree. Or stories of parcels posted on time and Christmas cards lovingly sent. Of chocolate brownies baked or home-made goodies in the fridge. Of everything ready.

A bout of flu (which I miraculously seem to have escaped - but give me time, and I'm sure I'll catch up) has kept us confined to the house; instead of the beautific week of treats, Christmas crafts, and little trips I expected, there has been much staring at the television, tiredness and bad temper.

I'm trying hard to come up with the Christmas spirit. I've got scented candles, Benjamin Britten, and a box of mince pies. (Yes, I did say a box. I didn't make my own. Don't look at me like that.)

Crossing fingers, everyone seems to be over the worst. So all that remains to be done is to swipe Santa's sherry and mince pie, catch up with wrapping, and wish you all a very Happy Christmas.

  2. What, no mushroom ornaments to show us? It's not Christmas without the mushrooms. Pfftt.

Love to you and yours dearest Coffeelady.

    Hope everyone's feeling better soon.

PS-Is Eleanor teasing you...or making fun of me? Dammit, I can't tell.

  6. Really hoping you don't get it. Unthinkable. Especially if you've had to nurse everyone else and produce Christmas.

  7. Oh blimey, your week sounds like mine. I am a huge fan of Christmas but this year, I really could do without it. Bah.

Stay well. I'm hoping I'm going to resist it too or there will be no lunch tomorrow, but more than that I am hoping Tall Small wakes up fever free for the first time in a week, and Tiny Small's cough doesn't transmogrify into something horrible.

  8. And a Happy Christmas to you too. You make me feel better about my own lack of Christmas-ness and organisational skills. (Didn't even manage to buy the cards this year, never mind write them or send them!)

  9. I think that you and DottyCookie need to grab large glasses of sherry, an entire mince pie or two, and settle in for a good laugh/weep on the phone together.

Actually, could I join you? I have no sickly children (unless never-ending colds count), no sherry (but a gift bottle of scotch) and no mince pie (but towering heaps of every other kind of sweet), but my Christmases never quite go according to plan either...

Happy Christmas in spite of it all. My word verif is "resin," which means don't forget the frankincense and myrrh. Happy to help...

  10. Happy Christmas Coffee Lady. Illnesses should be banned in the lead-up to Christmas, it does so wreck any plans to be all last-minutelike.

  11. I think you are justified in having Santa's sherry, because judging from your photo, he's had quite enough! Merry Christmas and good health Coffee people.

ps. at least you had mince pies even if they were from a box - in our house Santa had to have a bakewell tart......

  13. I hope you remained germ free, that everyone else is feeling better and that Santa's sherry did the trick and you all had a good Christmas.

  14. Hope you have remained flu-free.

We've also had a bugridden holiday - having managed to get no2 son back from Canada via snowbound Heathrow, he's taken to his bed with the lurgy.

    Happy New Year!

  15. Oh I hope everyone is feeling much better and you've managed to avoid the lurgy. It seems to have really done the rounds this year. Here's to a much healthier 2011!

  18. Missing your reassuring posts that let me know I'm the not the only one trying to catch up and make me laugh so much. Just hoping you did not get the bug too. Sending you best wishes for 2011 and an extra large coffee of your choice!

  19. Thanks Judy! I missed the bug, thankfully. Staved it off with massive quantities of sherry.
