The Changing Room

Recently I blogged about my midlife clothing crisis (god, but my life is hard), and invited anyone who was interested to join a sympathetic flickr group. It's been fascinating so far, seeing what everyone else is wearing, and giving more serious thought to what on earth I was putting on.

For any of you who thought about it, or who tried to join and could make no sense of the flickr invitations, I thought I'd do a quick update. Because people did sign up, and there we are, day after day, whether we're dressed for work, for lunch out, for a party, for a day sledging, or for a day at home where no-one will see us. Party dresses. Tracksuit bottoms. Aprons. Whatever.

(We're not mean, either. No-one yet has said "You look bloody dreadful in that." Just in case you thought this was my chance to have a go at online bullying.)

Feel free to join in. Click on the collage photo above, which will take you to my flickr account, and leave a comment asking to join. Don't be shy. Especially if, like me, the light in your house is so bad that we will be peering through the gloom to try to make you out.

  1. I will join--if only to prove that I sometimes wear my pajamas all day.

  2. You're adorable. And me and my elastic waist pants will be sitting out this flickr group.

  3. I have been so bad about this. It was all going so well, then I'm not quite sure what happened - oh yes, my husband went off on a business trip with my camera. That didn't help. I will be back in there ...

  4. I hadn't noticed how much red you have, can I come and steal some?

  5. Great idea - and really interesting to see what everybody else is wearing. Would love to join but I basically wear the same thing every day and would be too embarrassed to openly demonstrate that. Will watch everybody else's photos with interest.

  6. Looke at you my caffeinated friend, you are adorable!!!

I will join -- if only to see what pyjamas Eurolush wears.

  7. Look how freaking cute you are! And stylish! I will NOT be joining, because hello? I posted an entire VIDEO of myself, and could I be bothered to put on anything other than a pair of jeans and a ratty old t-shirt for it? No, I could not. Because THAT'S ALL I WEAR.

  8. Too shy for this one methinks. And no idea how to take even a half decent photo of myself.

Anyway, if everyone on there looks as damn stylish as you well, what on earth is that going to do for my inferiority complex?

  9. can i join please?, have been posting in the bloganistas group on flickr for the past couple of days as an experiment to see how often i wear the same outfit over and over again. it's going to be quite horrific!

  10. Oh, great. Now even MORE people will learn that I wear the same jeans (with a parade of baggy tops) every day, and that I have a shameless showboat of a preschooler barging into every photo.

Not to mention the spotty bathroom mirror...

  11. Is that you or a stunt lady?

I have been hesitating to join. I am a little nervous of it, partly due to the fright wig situation. Also I have some days when I don't manage to get beyond trackie bottoms and go out of the house with sleep in my eyes. These are not good looks.

  13. I think a midlife clothing crisis is exactly what I'm facing! Mind you, I've never been one for fashion.

  14. Can I join please? I nearly did when you and Domesticali fist posted about it, but then chickened out. But I've taken a couple of shots and now am feeling almost brave.

I tried to leave a comment on your flickr pic but couldn't ...

  15. Yes, well done on being British Mummy Blogger of the Week. Totally deserved. Would join your flickr group but am such a techno-berk I am still struggling with sticking things on my blog, so am worried it would be a bit beyond me. You look fabulous, though!

  19. I'm not sure how to join...I went on Flickr but I'm not sure which is the group. I'm knocking real loud on the door but you can't hear me, I'll just sit on the stoop and wait awhile. Hmph.

  20. Well! That will teach me not to rely on Bloglines to tell me when interesting things are happening on the Internet. I had thought of complaining that you were being Very Quiet but decided to be polite and not bother you in case you were busy or ill or in Torremelinos. And now I discover that you were seretly posting pictures of yourself. Looking artistically stylish. With red socks. Is it permissible to be enchanted by your hair cut?

  21. Hello - found you through BMB and Potty Mummy and glad to have done so! Will consider photo thing but fleece and raincoat could start to get dull seven days a week...rest assured I am in a style bypass where I live (and to think I used to live in so-fashionable-it-hurts Richmond...!). So sad.

  22. I think I could only fit three of me in a picture like that.
