Administration

[mass noun] the process or activity of running a business, organisation, etc.: the day-to-day administration of the company
So. Hallowe'en, Bonfire Night - they've all floated past me, with little celebration. It seems to be nearly winter, and I only just noticed. The weeks go by, and what have I to show for them? Admin. Phone calls, and meetings, and files full of papers relating to Eldest's new secondary school career. There are battles ahead. This parenting business never gets dull.

And while we're on the subject of administration, why did no-one warn me quite how much organisation was involved in quilting? I'm surrounded by Post-It notes and carefully-counted bits of fabric. It's a little bit like going to work (if we don't count the fabric). I've resisted the temptation to make a spreadsheet.

And while we're on the subject of Post-Its, this is my Pinterest-inspired Nerve Centre. The to-do list hidden inside my desk drawer was making me nervous. Getting it out in the open - on the kitchen noticeboard - has made things a lot easier. And it's very satisfying, scrumpling up the sticky notes on which a task is written when it's finally done.

And while we're on the subject of writing, I learned how to write my name in Circular Gallifreyan over the holiday, and had it screen printed onto a bag. If anyone can read this, please don't give away my secret. This is an anonymous blog.

And while we're on the subject of anonymity, I've been getting zillions of comments recently from unknown people, merely repeating phrases that have appeared on my blog. Obviously it's spam and I've reported it as such. But I wondered if anyone else has ever had the same problem, and if it finally went away? Here's hoping.

  1. I don't get Viagra offers. Perhaps they think I am asexual.

  2. Admin brings me out in a cold sweat - even the colour coded post it kind. There are many spammy comments over at mine of late too - I have closed the comments on the few old posts which seemed to be attracting the most in an effort to reduce the flow.

But I have resisted the temptation to have a bloody annoying word verification thingy. Please please please take yours off - if you are getting spammed, it's clearly not working anyway. And I've just had to re do it 4 times (not enough coffee today, obviously).

  3. That was true for me too, but lately I've had lots - with commenters copying and pasting something from the post itself. I think Blogger doesn't recognise these comments as spam because they read like everything else on the blog - it's pretty clever really.

  4. I was always dead impresse with the fact that the whole of Russia was coloured in on the map of my readership. One look at my spam folder recently brought the crushing disillusionment that it's all intense marketing for Slavic Viagra. Sigh. Love the nerve centre idea. I tried writing a list yesterday, but the jobs are so old now that all I have is a bad taste of jobs not done, without actually being able to remember what they are. More sigh.

    1. Once they get past a certain date, jobs can be forgotten about. Can't they? That's been my system.

  6. I really like your bag image, very trendy. I don't have much admin anymore so have quite forgotten how to stress about it. I hope it comes to you soon.

  7. Luckily the CZ doesn't seem to fall within the radar of spammers, so I've not been affected, but it would be very annoying!

How did you come to learn to write Circular Gallifreyan? Sounds like a blog post in the making!!

  8. Oh yes, I've had lots of weird spam comments too. Some of them are quite wonderful. I hope the poor little sweatshop children that are typing them are at least getting to practice their english.
