To the lifeboats

I'll be honest with you. My mental health at present is not what it could be.

Luckily, the cupboards are not bare of inspiration this Easter. My ambitions for the holiday were simple:
  1. to stay afloat.
  2. to make some kind of a dent in the stock of craft kits we managed to amass over Christmas and a couple of birthdays.
  3. to keep up with Eldest's programme of intensive physiotherapy - no mean feat without the back-up of school and its fantastic army of Teaching Assistants.
  4. to stay afloat.
The scale model of the Titanic is presented to you with no sense of irony.

Still. We have made it to the Easter weekend, and whilst we may not be emotionally intact, no-one has been (seriously) hurt.

We've painted. We've stuck. We've made ice-cream.

Bank Holidays bring reinforcements, in the form of Mr Coffee. "Fresh legs", as they say in football.

A series of smiles begin to peek through.

  1. I feel your pain. Hubs spent the first week of the hols in India. I had forgotten how exhausting full time parenting can be. And we have a houseful of people arriving tonight. Joy. More wine on the shopping list methinks.

  2. Sorry that you're feeling less than chipper. It's a long old road with the Eldest and I imagine it's all been rather difficult.

Love to you. Soon be Spring (properly and not the fake Spring we had last week)

    1. I don't think that was fake Spring. I think that was Actual Summer.

      And thank you. x

  3. Titanic Belfast approves. In every way of your every thing. Apparently no-one ever claimed it was unsinkable. But then mothers knew that. We know that it's all sinkable at the drop of a hat/pen/lego brick/Playmobil man/whatever! Sail on!

  4. Hoping that things begin to ease for you soon. And that your Easter is as Easterish as possible.

  5. I'm sorry. My mental health is a bit down there too, with less reason than you (but my reason is that my beloved daughter has married someone we don't awfully like and this chap persists in trying to make a living as an actor and therefore they're living impecuniously in London, far far away. Which is a bit rubbish). I hope you feel better soon. Eat chocolate.

    1. Oh no! Mr Coffee was an actor once, but I talked him out of it. I sincerely wish the same for you.

It's been a week over here too!

  7. In my experience craft kits are associated with a dramatic rise in blood pressure and should be avoided. I commend a structured programme of vintage films - you can claim you are building their visual archive.

  8. Hurray for fresh legs and smiles! I also prescribe whisky with tea on the side. It will soon be term time again. x

  9. I always feel a bit guilty at my relief as term approaches. We all love our kids, but I'm sure most of us like other people to have them some of the time.
Hooray for fresh legs and wine!

    1. Crafts do not involve having to supervise children in slightly chilly open spaces or lift them onto swings. Hoorah for crafts, which can be done sitting down in a warm room.

    2. Hahaha! But crafts involve tiny things, and sharp pointy things, and sticky things, and (gasp) g.l.i.t.t.e.r. Now I'm all itchy.

  12. Well I thought I had the whole holidays thing sorted, having married a teacher. This time around though, he goes back a whole week before them; I am most annoyed!

Very impressed that you took on a scale model of the titanic solo under the circumstances. Thank goodness for bank holidays and fresh legs. I love that feeling when reinforcements arrive and you can breathe a sigh of relief (or run upstairs and hide with a cup of tea).

  13. I hope the reinforcements and the chocolate are keeping you afloat today x as for me I am still reeling from the shock of taking our guests to lunch at the strawberry lounge only to find it closed. eek. there was Much grumbling And I then had to magic lunch out of nowhere at home..... (thankgoodness for frozen pizza that's all I can say)

  16. Sorry to hear you've got that slight sinking feeling - it sounds very familiar! I'm just going to keep paddling till it gets a bit shallower and I can get my feet on the bottom - see you there!

  17. You could be married to a clergyperson at Eastertime (and Christmas, and and and...) Gives solo parenting a whole new meaning.
