Good times and bad times

Remember me? I was the Coffee Lady. I used to be quite big around here. I would step out into the Internet and hold out my hand, and the traffic would STOP, while everyone listened to me describing the cakes I had eaten and the books I had read and the things I had to rant about.

And then it got a bit quiet, didn't it? And some of you might have detected a ghostly presence in your commentboxes - as if someone was there, but not quite there. That was me. Sometimes I even left a few words.

I thought about writing a blog post.  But whenever I did, all I could think about doing was embedding a video of The Beatles singing Help and then curling up in a foetal ball.

I'm sure I'm not the only parent who thinks she can usually cope quite well. And when I can't, I pretend I can. But then there are times when it all seems too much, and the only option is to just keep going until it gets easier.

Normal service will be resumed, I promise. I have a new book about Robin Hood, and we all know how much I like a bit of the Hooded Man.

Until then, there's nothing to fear. Not even ghosts in your commentbox.

  1. I remember you! I'm glad you are keeping going - it will get easier because that's the way life is.

  2. Of course we remember who you are.
Seeing as you'd linked this post to a previous one RE: Robin Hood, and seeing as though I'm from that 'neck of the woods' originally, I thought I'd pop off and read what you'd written before. Michael Praed - What a guy. I totally agree with you about him being the only Robin Hood, he was for me too, I pined and pined for him in my teenage years. I actually saw him in the flesh (I can feel your jealously), he was in the Copacabana musical that came to Nottingham, way back in the 90's - OMG! the man was soooooooooooo sexy. I wonder what he looks like now (??????).
Look forward to you getting your blogging head back on.
    Take care.

  3. isn't it a pain when life gets in the way of blogging!

I had a big break from blogging in Jan when my dad was in hospital and real life was intruding in a big way. It would have been silly and trivial to be thinking about blog posts at a time like that and I found it very very difficult to get back into it even once he was home again.

Still, here I am again and here you will be again soon, I sincerely hope.

  4. We'll still be here, waiting patiently and giving little cheers every time we see anything new from you. And rooting for you that everything starts to go right very soon.

I've been lurking at the Changing Room, hanging my head in shame at my uselessness. I very nearly took a picture for you all the other day because I actually wore a skirt - outside the house no less. Then I saw sense and put my jeans back on.

  6. I think of you every time I have a cup of coffee, so at least 3 times a day.

I hope you get some time to rest and some time to do something fun. You know...you're part of a very beautiful club of women/mothers in very similar situations.

As the Lady of the Ring often tells me - it's the companionship with other such Ladies which makes the Ring that much easier to bear.

Love ya, my little caffeinated buddy.

  8. At least you have the good sense to remember that it eventually all does get easier. Or we adjust to the new stress levels and that becomes the acceptable status quo. Either way, I look forward to seeing you soon.`

  9. You're ahead of me. At least you feel you cope well MOST of the time.

As long as I get to wave at you in the Changing Room, I'll be satisfied. But blog when you can!

  12. I remember you - you live in the real world and you make me laugh.

Real life and blogging just aren't always compatible - but heh, just tell it like it is, when you feel like it and I'll be happy with that.

  13. Hi - this is my first time here and I've enjoyed my visit. I like the idea of trying not to be cynical! I know what you're saying...I think I've just blogged about clearing up, making changes, getting organised...and I'm pretty sure I've mentioned that one before. AND I seem incapable of posting photos at the moment. Perhaps it's the time of year, or the cold. I'll come back in a while...

  15. Having been noseying around at my favourite blogs for the past half hour, I've noticed there's quite a bit of 'blogging ennui' in the water. Probably something to do with this endless bloody winter - right now I'm wearing my dressing gown over my clothes. Hope things pick up soon; I'll be looking foward to your next post. Just one thing, though: hands off Michael Praed and John Sim. They're both mine! And you can't have Tom Hardy off The Virgin Queen/The Take either!
