Going around in circles

There's nothing like blogging for pulling you up short. This week, I realised it had been a while since I'd written a post, so I started to think about what I might say. How I might represent the excitement which had been my recent life.

And there it was in black and white - déjà vu. My life, it seems, is so exciting that I have done it all before. Should I tell you about the day of driving I did for work? Across the hills, then down to the coast? Or was it spookily similar to the one I did exactly a year ago?

Or I could talk about how, this morning, I went out into the garden with my washing basket for the first time this Spring, and wandered about the garden looking for signs of life.

Oh. Same sheets. Same washing basket.

Same old, same old.

  1. But see, there's comfort in those predictable rhythms. Or so they say.

And just as I was last year, I am green with envy that you can even think about hanging laundry outdoors this early.

  2. Well, I'm going to have to wash my washing line before I can even think of hanging anything on it so you're at least one step ahead of me.

  3. What Lynn said.

The older I get (not that I'm that old!), the more I notice and appreciate the rhythm of the years. The way the bulbs start growing, but each year they do it differently. The way some years one flower is in profusion and the next it is a differnt flower.

It was a glorious day for washing though!

  4. I have a new washing line, though I am still waiting for it to be strung across the garden.

Once it is in situ, I too shall be venturing out with my basket to admire the moss, weeds, kitty treats and rotting remains of the vegetable garden.

Loved the illustrative style of the original post by the way - captured that particular stretch of the M6 just perfectly.

  5. It was 'back to the line' day here today too!

There's comfort in sharing these rhythms with one another, I think.

  7. I'll bet if you had robbed a bank, the day wouldn't have felt so repetitive. Sometimes crime is the answer.

  10. I thought about it - then didn't, but have to admit it is a particular pleasure for me hanging out the washing - sad but true.
I have no spring flowers because the hens have eaten them...there - I didn't have hens this time last year !
This time last year my friend was happy and now she is sad very sad.
